Pieces for piano and trumpet?
on: June 15, 2013, 07:57:05 PM
I'm looking to play something with a friend of mine, preferably from before the 20th century, or at least something tonal.

Any good suggestions? I'm looking for real duet pieces, not an orchestra reduction of a trumpet concerto.

Thanks in advance!

I never found any when I looked 40 years ago. We ended up adapting pieces for other instruments such as violin and piano. Good luck!

There's the Hindemith Sonata for Trumpet and Piano, it's early 20th but a real chamber work.

Scriabin wrote a romance for horn and piano which I think could be beautifully transcribed for trumpet.  It is early Scriabin so it's lush and late romantic.

Might also take a look at some of the early Baroque and Renaissance works, some of which were for trumpet and harpsichord, or trumpet and organ (but with the organ part adaptable to piano).  Folks such as Clarke or Purcell, etc.  Maybe even some Haydn.

Just listened to it. This is a nice piece! Too bad it's so short.
What do you mean by transcribe? Is the horn version a tad too low for the trumpet register?

Will do! Do you know any off your head? A very quick search on Google turned up nothing...

Thanks, but it is a bit to modern for me still.
