Looking for a good Chopin recital piece
on: June 19, 2013, 05:26:05 AM
I'm an amateur pianist looking for a good Chopin piece to play for my teacher's annual recital. I've got a long time to learn it, and I want something that can compare to Liszt's HR2 in enjoyability for the audience. I was thinking that maybe the Scherzo No. 2 in B flat minor would be good, but I'd love some additional opinions.

Any of his ballades, scherzos or Barcarolle,Fantaisie, Polonaise Op.44, Op.53 or Op.61. Just choose the one you like the most. The second scherzo is one of the most easiest from the written but enjoyable and effective, If you want, go for it! Personally I would go for the second Ballade-it's my favourite piece and very show off one.
Good luck!

The Scherzo is awesome! The themes in it are really attractive for the audience's ear (non-musical audience as well).
His Barcarolle is stunning.
I'd have to agree with the Heroic Polonaise, or the 2nd Ballade.
If you are feeling gutsy, check out any of his Rondos... or the Allegro de Concert (I'm not being totally serious... I've seen the score for the Allegro, and it's absurd)
A group of Preludes? maybe two to three pairs of major/minor.

Chopin Etudes are concert / show pieces as well. Another polonaise will be Andante spianato & Grand Polonaise Op 22. Any way, all the mentioned pieces in the thread are great for the audience but challenging for the pianist.
