[Help!] Bach Minuet in G- Ready for Monday?
on: June 22, 2013, 02:06:53 AM
Hello!

I have this monday a recital at a theater (my first) and my teacher assigned me Bach's Minuet in G.
Now, the score I had was simply A-A-B-B no trills or anything like that, so my teacher suggested that I should add some to spice it up and play it A-A-B.

I just want to know is the performance is bearable, I have no hopes of standing ovations or anything because I am just a beginner, and this recital is for the "best" students of each level. Nevertheless I would like to give to best.

I had written this topic for another forum but it got deleated because the file I attached wasn't acceptable so the forum didn't let me post it, thus why the rushed feeling of this thread.

So anyway, any kind of advice in dynamics, tempo and so on is apreaccited.

Thanks in advance!

Your biggest problem here is maintaining a nice steady beat.  Now when you play the parts without ornaments, there is a little bit of rushing and dragging, but for the most part it is pretty good.  But when you add in the ornaments, some of them are messing up the rhythm.  Right now, the second time through the A section does not sound nearly as good as the first time.

I would suggest:  listen to your recording.  Try to count out the three steady beats per measure.  Take notice of where it is goes wrong.  Fix the problem.  Basically you can either work on the ornaments until you can play them with confidence and maintain three steady beats per measure, or just take them out (or some of them out) and play what you had worked on from the beginning.

I tried to mimic a bit how a ensamble sounded thus the dragging and such, but if it sounds bad then you're right I will go back to counting.

Also the ornaments, I would like to keep, I am aware that the second run in A's second part sounds abit rushed, I am not used to ornaments but this is no excuse. I have note what you said and I will practice it with zeal until Monday.

If I feel a real advance in my technique I will post it here.

Thanks a lot! Other reviews and such are apreacciated as well
