Best way to get back into classical music
on: November 02, 2004, 02:10:50 AM
Ok..I am currently 20 yrs. old and I started playing the piano 11 years  ago.  I studied classical for about 5 years and then started branching off and playing Jazz...and now I am a very good jazz pianist and I would like to start playing classical again (in order to increase my reading, my hand speed, and fix some technique problems that I developed from playing jazz.lol) What advice would you guys give me for getting back into classical (piece suggestions, recordings, and just any general advice). I hope it is not too late for me to get back into classical.  Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

My advice: find a teacher that can give you one-on-one instruction.  From what you're describing, the issues you need addressed simply cannot be addressed without feedback from a knowledgeable teacher.  Sure, there are intellectual aspects that can be learned, but you will not improve in the way you'd like without someone working with you.
