Recommended Grade 7 Pieces
on: June 27, 2013, 12:14:58 AM
I'm starting RCM grade 7
and am currently choosing pieces. What pieces would you recommend? Which ones are fun to play and are not too hard? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

One of the things about RCM is that repertoire (as opposed to the technical requirements) has to be played from memory, while other syllabuses allow the use of music. Consequently a number pieces in RCM grade 7 can be found at much lower grades elsewhere, which suggests that you might find them relatively easy from a technical standpoint, relative to other grade 7 pieces. For example all of these pieces from RCM grade 7 can be also found in AMEB or ABRSM grade 4:
Bach Invention No. 1 BWV 772
Clementi 1st mvt from Sonatina Op 36 No 3
Grieg Dance of the Elves Op 12 No 4
Kabalevsky Etude in A minor Op 27 No 3
Kuhlau 1st mvt from Sonatina Op 55 No 3
Mozart 4th mvt from Viennese Sonatina No. 1
I'm sure there are more. You can check this with the Piano Syllabus app (free on Google Play).
