New Piano Market Statistics: Inside the Quiet Transformation of Piano Playing

For those of us who spend our lives on the bench — whether teaching, practicing for a recital, or simply playing for the love of it – the piano has always been a singular concept: wood, felt, strings, and soul. sticky hands
on: July 02, 2013, 02:29:16 AM
I noticed another thread, "shaky hands," and remembered that, before performing in front of people, I get really sticky hands. Does anyone have a remedy for this, or have you guys experienced this yourselves?

Thanks

This happens to me while I'm waiting to perform at competitions.  :( I've noticed that my hads get sticky when they are cupped together. Keeping your hand apart helps. As does playing the piece your about to perform on your lap.   ;)
I'm going into grade 8 RCM, & am preparing for the Basic Harmony exam. :)
Over the summer I'm working on some Bach inventions, & Bartok Romanian Folk Dances.
I also play violin & guitar! :D

Hug someone with an absorbent coat.

I love sticky hands.

When my hands are sticky, I am unstoppable!  I can play ANYTHING!

No seriously, if my hands are like super sticky I don't waste energy worrying about slipping off the keys.

Another suggestion: wipe them off on some Stockhausen.

Yes, this had happened to me when I first started playing really hard repertoire. Fast scale and things like that. I found that after a few months of playing to people things like sweaty and sticky hands no longer happen. I'm really chilled out and relaxed all the time now.

In short, it's just a matter of time before it no longer effects you.

1 remedy is to dip your hands into warm water.

I no longer have to do that though.
