Pedaling on Schubert Impromptu Op 90, No 2
on: July 11, 2013, 06:17:42 PM
Hi!

I am currently learning Schubert's Impromptu Op. 90, No. 2, but I'm stuck in a huge issue: pedaling.
Music sheet doesn't bring any pedal mark, but I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to use at least some.

Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe only B section, or beats 1-2 or 2-3 in A section.

If I were you, I'd put this in the 'repertoire' board since it is likely to be more people on hand to help there   :)

I would try and advise, but I've never learned this particular impromptu.
Look at copies of it on the imslp website - there should be at least one with pedal marks on there!

Make sure you have it at the speed it should be at if you haven't. It tends to be that you'll need less pedal than you think if it is truly played in Allegro.
Currently Learning:
Chopin - Etude Op.25 No.2
Schubert - Sonata D.664
Schumann - Abegg Variations

You also need to bear in mind that pedalling is affected by the piano and the space it's in. User your ears as well.
