Advice on Haydn Sonatas as well as Liszt...
on: July 24, 2013, 11:37:57 AM
So for my college exam next year, it's required that I learn a Classical Sonata (for which we are given a list of possible Sonatas), a Bach Prelude and Fugue as well as a Romantic piece with some lyrical passages. With the advice of my teacher, I've decided to tackle Bach Prelude and Fugue in B flat Minor, Book 1. However, I've been left to my own devices to decide on the other pieces.
I've narrowed my choices down to these:
For the Classical Sonata, one of Haydn, 46, 48, 49, 50, 52. (I was debating between, 49 and 52. However, I couldn't get stuck into 52 and I'm unsure as to whether 49 is a good choice or not.)
For the Romantic Piece, one of Liszt's Harmonies poétiques et religieuses (Apart from Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude which is the most popular of these pieces, due to the time limit of this recital.)
Any advice as to which of these pieces would fit well with the Bach and create a good programme would be greatly appreciated!
