Nikolaj Kapustin: Prelude op. 53 n.9
on: August 08, 2013, 08:20:32 PM
Sorry about the digital piano and squeaking pedal. My upright (an old Hoffmann from the Belle Epoque) is in bad condition due to nonuse.

Congratulations!!
First, because you're playing this (contemporary music from a genius of "russian" jazz like Kapustin) and second because of your performance
It's a shame the low quality of the recording because it could be much better with a better audio. Have you ever thought about buying a tape recorder?
Very good performance of this piece. Congratulations again!!

Thank you, franklisko!
I know, the audio sucks and the shrieking pedal is quite annoying. This recording doesn't quite make justice to this wonderful piece. I will try to record it again when I have more time.

To some extent, it seems to me that Kapustin worked in a contrary direction, in that he created notation to imitate improvisation. So probably even more personal liberties could be taken with tempo, and the dynamic range widened to produce the intimate, coaxing quality of improvisation of this type. I would like to hear you play it on an acoustic grand, as your feeling for this sort of music is good but perhaps limited by a digital piano.
