BRAHMS!!!
on: August 13, 2013, 07:02:13 PM
So I'm gonna start a Brahms piece soon, and it will be my first.  I was think of the Rhapsody in G minor, Op 79 No. 2. I recently finished Beethoven Sonata Op 10 No 1 in c minor, Bach P&F E flat major from Book 1, Bach French Suite no 2 in c minor, Chopin Etude op 10 no 9 f minor, and I am currently working on Chopin Etude op 10 no 5, black keys, and I may start another Bach P&F soon. So what do you guys think about the Brahms Rhapsody?
Debussy Pour le Piano
Chopin Etude 10/5, 10/9
Beethoven Sonata 2/2, 10/3
Bach P&F no. 7 WTC 1
Ligeti Musica Ricercata 10

Include ballades op. 10 in your consideration, along with the g minor late one.
I also love the E flat major rhapsody op. 119
I just wouldnt like to see another average g minor rhapsody in this world

What I usually do when I with a composer I don't have any experience with: I start with pieces I can *easily* handle. Both op. 79 rhapsodies are great, and so is the aforementioned ballade, but I'd start with something more lightweight. If you play your first Bach, you'd typically play some 2-part inventions instead of the WTC.

Of course, what's easy depends a lot on your level, which I can't judge, even though your repertoire sounds like you should be able to handle those Brahms pieces.
