Bach, Prelude and Fugue in C Sharp Major BWV 868
on: August 14, 2013, 05:31:15 AM
Hi Everyone
I just want some feedback/criticism/advice for a piece that I have recently started working on. This is the prelude and fugue in C sharp major from book 1 of wtc.

It's a very good start.
I'd suggest you slow it down a bit for the moment, especially the Prelude.
You have a habit of using a staccato touch for the bass and a more legato approach for the treble. Try and make the touch follow the music rather than the hands, so if a theme from the treble is repeated in the bass, use the same touch as you gave it in the treble. Same in the fugue, though apply it to the themes in the 3 voices. Don't be scared of using legato.
I think you can be a bit more adventurous with loudness/softness, applying the same approach as I've suggested as to touch.
A few nervous moments with the notes, but slowing it down will make those more secure.
It's got the fundamentals basically right, and is a great start. Hope to hear another version when you've got it more ingrained.
