Why not try one of his transcriptions of the Beethoven Symphonies?
Horowitz thought they were some of greatest pieces ever written for piano and deeply regretted never having performed them publicly!

Hi, thanks for your replies.
I so far i don't feel ready for those TE's :/.
The Beethoven Symphonies are a fine idea. I think about playing the 7th Symphony. Especially the 2nd movement which gives me always the creeps when I listen to it.

I think you'll find they are a good bit harder than any of the TE's.

LOL.  You really think the Sonata is that bad?  Liszt wrote a several pieces that I think are way more difficult.

Pssssh come on!

If you say an itty bitty five minute long TE etude, then you're done.

That sonata is like half an hour long what the heck?!

@OP:  Check out his other concert etudes or another Hungarian rhapsody (I really like #12 and #13).  If you want something easier check out Funerailles - I wouldn't be surprised if this is easily sight readable for you.

When the poster said "rape" I took it to mean getting completely and utterly destroyed.

I'd say learning the Sonata would be more like running a marathon.  It'd probably be long and torturous 6+ months to learn, but at no point do you get raped.  I would definitely agree it's hard - there are some really awkward parts where you're forced to use awkward fingerings and there are also the octaves.  However, when I think of rape by Liszt, I think of Rondeau Fantastique sur un theme Espagnole.

I'd recommend more "Te"s. No 8 shouldn't be too difficult...although I haven't played it before.
You should also look at the rest of the Three Concert Etudes, and the other set: two Concert Etudes. They're not as "flashy" in my opinion, but I really like them. Have a look at Ab Irato if haven't listened to it before.

There were some "HR"s I was planning to play myself, Nos 6 and 11.

There is also Au Lac de Wallenstadt, which was on the alternative pieces for ABRSM grade 8.

Beethoven - Piano Concerto No.2, Piano Sonata Op 57
Chopin - Ballade Op 23
Liszt- Hungarian Rhapsody No.14
Ravel - Pavane Pour une Infante Défunte
Cramer/Bulow,Chopin Etudes
Chamber music
