Great passages in classical music
on: August 20, 2013, 08:51:57 PM
I decided to start a topic where everyone could mention parts of classical works which they find to be memorable. Some rather famous examples that come to mind:

The climax of the third movement (or perhaps the whole sonata) of Beethoven's Hammerklavier, Op. 106:

The climax of the first movement of Rachmaninoff's Op. 30 (skip to 8:26):

Schubert's second piece from Drei Klavierstücke D. 946 (13:23):

Liszt's Dante Sonata (2:39):

Definitely my favorite moment in all of music (at least at the moment) is in the Ouverture of Bach's Partita 4, a bit after the 9/8 section starts (~1:57) and then once more at the ending (~4:25). It's so full of joy and energy, at least the way Gould plays it. I love it.

Personally I find the whole 2nd movement of Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto to be memorable.
Funny? How? How am I funny?
