Invention 7 Arpeggio fingering

I am really stuck on the left hand in measures 17-19. If you can have a piano at hand or imagine you have one in front of you . . . that would be superb 

So in the image below, the part colored red is uncomfortable; the thumb has to come back fast and cover some distance. This is especially annoying in the second red section. I can play all of it, but it comes out uneven, in volume and a little bit uneven in rhythm.

The blue section is very nice and comfortable for my hand and it works.

Should I keep the fingering and hope that when I finish the piece and master it that it gets more comfortable, or change the fingering? If so, can you provide some options?

You could use 1 2 3 instead of 1 2 1. That way your thumb will have more time to position . You could move your thumb at 3 instead . Same thing with the second issue-area. Or, you can re-arrange your fingering so 2 is the top note and you bring your thumb over from there only once, but you'll have to change alot more fingering to accomodate that, but that is what practice is for ..to try different fingerings. And NO, you dont want to just continue to learn the piece with fingering that does not work for you. You'll have trouble changing it later.

The thing is that where it comes down after the second section I have to do 4f#   1e   4d# 3e which isn't too bad.

For the first part if I do what you said I have to do 2f# 4e 4 f#.

I repeated the altered version and it is much smoother, more comfortbale!

No you dont have to do 2f# 4e 4 f#.  you can use 2 f# 1 e  3 or  2 f#.

Just realize "my" fingering may have been the original as noted. I would still try different fingerings to find out which fingering keeps my hand in the most natural position i.e. no stretching or acrobatics. Always a work in progress

Yes I've tried others and this is the easiet. My hand is together and relaxed. No rush in it. But definitely better.

Fingering is crucial for evenness especially in counterpoint.
