Met a prodigy today.
on: August 27, 2013, 11:08:44 PM
Today in school during lunch i was in the auditorium behind the curtain(small high school and the auditorium is where everyone eats)working out some kinks in the friska. And this 8th grader comes up to me and says, "wow your really good, can i try?" he sits down and to my astonishment he plays the Fantasie Imp. I started talking to him, turns out hes technically a 7th grader but he skipped a grade. He continues to say I wish i could play hard songs like that but my potential repertoire is extremely limited as i have small hands and cant reach. His hand span is from C# to B/C. I would like to give him a lengthy list of songs that do not require, large hands to play but are difficult.

Thanks.
Nathan

So who's the prodigy?

There are 12 year olds who can play the Rach 2nd sonata.  This is nothing special.

I once saw a 14 year old play the Petrouchka.

Oh...

My...

God...

Wow. :o  :o

I'm starting to believe in this.

I wish I could do that... I'm 15 (16 in a bit) and still doing Pathétique.  :'(

(If indigo children are real, I think we'll be seeing eight-year-olds play Hammerklavier, Islamey and Gaspard de la Nuit in no time.)
Chopin Op 18, Op 53, 62/2, 37/2, 10/12
Fauré Nocturne 5
Bach English Suite 3
Brahms 79/2

Well there's a youtube video of an 11 year old doing the Petrouchka.

We're getting there.

Only if we started at age 2...

It's because the standard changes. I'm sure Kissin would be able to do that as well, but he didn't play music until he understood it. Nowadays, people start playing difficult stuff as soon as they can play the notes... then they wait 20 years... and then they play it well...
