Just started out
on: August 31, 2013, 01:54:33 PM
Hello everyone, so i started playing piano 6 days ago...I started mainly trying to tackle some pieces (which is obviously wrong)...I can play moonlight sonata 1st movement first part. But am trying to find or do a more organized practice routine (and nowadays i really cant afford a piano teacher , so trying to learn by myself like how i did it on guitar for 2 years)....i really love Chopin's pieces (nocturnes, mazurkas and etudes mostly) and was hoping to reach that level of technique and expression. Can you please help me showing me the beginning road till i can go on by myself

Hi.

Upload this moonlight sonata version of yours please. Even the first page is somewhat difficult for me to sightread (sightread a few times mind you:p), but I've been playing for slightly over a year now.

If you can truly play the first part after only 6 days of playing and practising the piano: wow.

If you can truly play the first part after 6 days of playing and practising the piano, but half-assed: good to know your so enthusiastic! That piece is difficult, especially because you have to play it very softly in the beginning. Don't fret about it not sounding the way you want though, you need more practise.

See I love Bach, so maybe you can get started on Bach anna magdalena works. Learn via youtube if you really can't afford a teacher. Also, learning scales would do your fingers good I believe. I try to do around 10 scales each day. It takes me around 5-6 minutes to complete them all, including some mirror scales (C major, E major, E flat major, last one not sure if correct name used).

Remember that learning the piano doesn't require you to jump and jump and go like a ferrari. I did that slightly and it only really works if you can handle it in terms of stress (work, school, psychological state) and how fast you can get on the 'oh so that's how you learn things quickly' road.

If I were you I would check out mister Lypur's youtube channel and start with those lessons.

Check it out and most of all: have fun! :)

That's awesome!

However, you'll need to step back quite a bit so that you can develop a sure technique. It's better to reach the Moonlight in a year with a steady technique than play it now with a technique with holes in it.
By the way, the more you practise your technique, the easier it will become for you to play these pieces. Don't be tempted to rush through your piano studies, as tempting as it may be, because it could be awkward when you're at a higher level and you find that your technique is a little behind in some places (believe me, I would know!  :) )

Hope this helps (and thumbs up),

Carlos R.

That sounded amazing for just 6 days.

Question though: how did you learn those first few bars? Can you already read the sheet? In just 6 days of starting out?

If you have had no musical background, then I suspect that you learned it from youtube. True? Even so, good stuff man.

Honestly i used Synthesia to help me visualize it. I do have abit of musical background (2 years of guitar) but my music theory is kind of weak. It and sheet music reading is what am trying to develop the most now.But for technique i dont know what to do

so guys any opinions on what pieces to learn , I learned part 3/6 of swan lake and the first few bars of Fur elise lately but am considering focusing on more beginner pieces to avoid mistakes and build a solid foundation.
