Suggestions for Bach Solo Keyboard. Please Read.
on: September 07, 2013, 01:26:19 PM
Hello esteemed Bach scholars. I have recently completed the French Suites as well as the English suites and Partitas. I would appreciate suggestions on which Bach project to tackle next.

    Thanks

I'm not going to pretend that I know all of that music thoroughly, or that I am an expert in Bach. However, it sounds that learning all of WTC I would be a good option...

Enough Bach!

Study the other Baroque masters!

Handel, Couperin, Rameau, and Byrd all wrote brilliant keyboard music.

There are countless others, as well.

If you are telling the truth, and you can actually play all of the Bach repertoire you have listed to a high level, then that is a huge amount of Bach-far more than many concert pianists have in their repertoire.

I love Bach as well. But as a Baroque artist, you have a responsibility to play works from different masters. Not just one!

Or maybe he'll just have to keep at it until he gets it out of his system, decide he's had enough of that era for now, and switch to jazz and blues.

And of course, the finest jazz and blues artists, such as the late and great Oscar Peterson, were also HIGHLY accomplished Baroque players.   ;)

No, but the soloist is a solo keyboard.

The WTC? The Art of the Fugue?

How can you not know?

Also, awesome-o's suggestion to branch out is also a good one.
