Composers like
on: September 09, 2013, 10:17:04 AM
Alright, trying to find some new composers to listen to (and maybe play, if its not too difficult XD). Something along the lines of Chopin, early-midlate Liadov, early-middle Scriabin, and early szymanowski.

plz

Try Adolf von Henselt! Two years younger than Chopin. Similar approach to technique. He was considered a great Chopin interpreter in his day, if such a thing existed back then. Composed many fine works!

*4 years younger* Chopin's dates were 1810-1849 and Henselt's 1814-1889

Well, I was going to recommend Lyapunov, Medtner and Henselt.
Besides, Rachmaninoff comes to mind, but is not that easy listening, and definitely not easy to play.
So, I say, Felix Blumenfeld, and he may be too famous, so you'll probably heard of his music, but Gabriel Pierné. Even Rachmaninoff adored him.
No Ornstein by the way.

I'm sorry but I don't consider Rachmaninoff to be similar to the composers mentioned above you. i like him, but ehhhhhhhh
He's too russian
so is lyapunov

And thank you for showing me Henselt, that guy was amazing.

I believe Georgy Catoire is also really good, just a slightly different use of technique.
Some pieces by Arthur Lourié also stand up, most notably Preludes Fragiles.

Don´t forget Stanchinsky either! :)

Edward MacDowell is one of my favorite composers and most of his stuff is accesible(if not all).

Enrique Granados has his great stuff too!

Ricardo Castro was a Mexican composer which lived around the same time as Debussy and his works are very romantic and later he composed more in an impressionist style. Highly reccomend to check him out!
Here his Caprice Waltz(his most known work), i prefer the piano version though.

Sadly most of his work is unknown, IMSLP has some of his pieces and they are relatively not hard. :)
