It's very nice, but it doesn't match up to Chopin. (Though you can tell he was inspired by him.)

Thanks for sharing this,

 I liked it too, and also further material of his on Youtube, including his "Etude for the left hand alone (Op.36)

Thank you  :)

i think the melody is very beautiful, it's wistful and flowing, and it's immediately stirring. some of chopin stuff i feel like the melody isn't that beautiful, but the way it's manipulated throughout the song makes it beautiful. this piece i stumbled upon has a theme that has a pure aesthetic quality

I think you're shallow...  ::)
sound's overly sentimental to me... also the accompaniment pattern never changes >>"

whats wrong with a song being emotional..... lol
and variety isn't necessarily required ;) especially if keeping the same thing doesn't detract from the aesthetic value. whydo you think chopin is better?

Well, in my opinion, chopin's pieces seem to flow better. If you take this blumenfield guy's piece for example, each part sounds very episodic and doesn't transition well from section to section, almost like he copied and pasted sections together on sibelius or someshit. look at his accompaniment, just ostinatos followed by arpeggios.

Well, Blumenfeld was actually inspired by Chopin. But Rachmaninoff definitely does surpass Chopin.

Rachmaninoff himself would disagree with you.

But he was certainly a self-deprecating fellow... and after all, you probably have better taste and know more about classical music in general than he did  ::)

I'm amazed at how many people on this forum are so, um, "qualified".

This sarcastic wording of yours is going to kill me. And, don't tell me Yiruma doesn't remind you of Chopin.

I do not believe you or anyone else on this forum including myself has the right to judge anyone elses opinion. I think this forum is about sharing your ideas. Sarcasm is what I would think would be the opposite of what should be on here. I find that Rachmaninoff surpasses Chopin as well and if you want to shoot me down as well, go right ahead.

This thread is, indeed, truly... exemplary. Of something, at least. I'm not sure that it is high level musical analysis, though.
