The first concerto is one of my favorites. The very end, where the theme from the first movement comes back, always gives me a thrill.

I'm learning his 5th (the "Egyptian") right now.  Very exotic.

I know ! I don't even know what all the hype is about Rach 3, I think SS # 2 does it some justice!

I mean Rach 3 is good, but its not the only "titan" concerto out there.

Saint-Saens as a composer is cool. But as a person... meh...

I think I didn't pay much attention to him because of his name.

You gotta admit it, that is a weird name.

Concerto No 4 is pretty amazing especially the second movement. Awesome music and pretty darn exciting at that.

What sort of stuff did he do as a man to deserve that "meh?"

the tricky bits of the concerto are: 2nd mvt - several passages involving double notes on one hand. those are a pregnant dog till you can get it downpat.
3rd mvt - left hand is devilish to play at high speeds at the opening section. not to mention it recurs a few times.

other than those the piece is pretty damn easy. (alas playing this damned concerto lost me my third win of my school concerto competition. - sigh - and i was gonna be the first person with a hattrick too. ah well... :D

ps: i've only played the first mvt.)

Saint-Saens has to be the most overrated composer I know of, except maybe Alkan, for all the hype you kids give him.
