Difficulty: Beethoven Moonlight Mvt. 1 vs. Chopin Valse op. 69 no.1 A Flat Minor

I am looking for opinions regarding which piece is easier (both technically and musically). Again, I am only referring to the Moonlight Sonata Mvt. 1. If one piece is easier, how much easier? Also, if you are familiar with the rating scale (1-10) that would be helpful.

I have learned the Moonlight Mvt. 1.. well if learning means being able to put my hands on the right keys. That being said, my phrasing and clarity are improving and the piece sounds decent. I would like to play the Valse as it has always been one of my favorite pieces. However, it looks and sounds more difficult to my eyes/ears. I don't want to frustrate myself. I am an adult student who has been playing for -2.5 years.

The Moonlight is actually more difficult than it appears. Getting notes right is only the beginning. Why not start  the Chopin? The two pieces should work well in your practice routine because each requires a different approach. I like to try pieces that are different from my "stack" so I will develop different skills.

If it's any help the Piano Syllabus app on Google Play lists the Beethoven (mvt. 1) as grade 7 while the Chopin is listed as grade 8.

Thanks for the responses. I have started the Valse and though I am finding it difficult I am definitely enjoying the change of pace from Beethoven. I completed the Moonlight and found it much less difficult both technically and musically. That being said, the way Chopin writes music to fit under your hand makes the Valse an immensely interesting piece to play in my opinion. My teacher suggested to follow the fingering in the Polish edition and I am progressing a bit more rapidly. One of my biggest shortcomings musically is poor sight reading capabilities and the Valse really demands that. So, I think it will be a nice challenge for me.
