Feeling the need to hit the reply tab?
on: October 05, 2013, 12:18:13 PM
Why is it that so many people on this piano forum feel the need to hit the reply tab and comment on things they know little or nothing about?

Also, if someone knows of another piano-related forum out there with higher standards, please let me know.

An internet forum with high standards of discussion? Would have to be a closed forum. Something where people who know it all and mostly agree on everything can enjoy their uniteness. I would find it quite boring. I happen to believe that thinking out of the box is useful for development of novel ideas, even if the side effect is an exposure to a lot of useless cr*p.

I would have said that this forum has a remarkably high standard of discussion, as internet forums go.  Granted, there are a few folks who either know everything and are happy to tell you about it, or who know very little and are happy to tell you about that, too.  But most of the folks on here seem to be genuinely interested in others, and try to be helpful.  It's a rare thread that I don't learn something useful from.

And I might add that we have some folks on here with really good senses of humour!

I agree with Ian in finding this forum remarkably tolerant and constructive, with commendable balance, depth and breadth of interest and talent. It completely lacks the sort of magisterial, antagonistic hagiolatry so depressingly apparent on the other two major piano forums. Everyone, whatever the extent and nature of his raw talent and external achievement, has the right to joy and self-transcendence at the instrument in whatever aesthetic direction he pleases. This forum has always endorsed that, and long may it continue.

Piano World wants the security code to your retirement accounts to participate.  I'm not that stupid.  I don't participate in Facebook or Twitter, for the same reason.  So people that post only here have passed an intelligence test.  I quit working at age 58, no disability or unemployment pay: how about you?
Similar retirement savvy forums are organforum.com, diyaudio.com, tractorforum.com.  If you want to know about repairing electronic organs, amps and preamps, or riding lawnmowers, I often can help over there.
However, many people posting here are students wanting "free" sheet music.  I didn't say much when I was that age, as I wasn't experienced enough to be instructive.  Times have changed.
And if iansinclair or hmfadopter could receive expert points, I would be glad to give them some.

Now now don't be such a sour puss after all this forum as mentioned before has this nice little quaint feel to it, the simple design is a bit lacking in some regards but it works well so fck it.
