Juilliard
on: October 13, 2013, 08:12:35 PM
That name....how does everyone know it?!?!

When I told my non-musician friends that I was going to major in piano performance they were all like "You should go to Julliard (yes, they spelled it that way)," "Are you thinking about going to Juilliard?" etc.

I actually don't get it thooooo.....NYC? What else?

It's an arts school.  It's well-known.

Juilliard and Eastman. Top for performance.

I'm not an expert on them.  I get more of an overall art feeling from Julliard -- Dance...  I guess just dance.  More performance art.  If they're top for visual arts that wouldn't surprise me.  I'm not quite sure what Eastman is about beyond music performance.

LOL, I remember when if you told your friends something, your spelling wasn't an issue.

They attracted probably the best teachers or produced the best students.

I've wondered if you just paid teachers a lot, had a nice set up in the right location (near/in a big city), what the results would be.  If you made it so the best teachers went there...  There's probably a few years of setting up some crops of students....   Could you just create a new top-level school of music?  The reputation drives students and teachers there though.... Chicken and egg....  Still if you threw money at it.... Hire the best teachers.  Advertise the heck out of it so students are aware....  I wonder how long it would take.

Barry Manilow is a Juilliard graduate. Just thought I'd mention that.

They have a lot of making up to do.
