Current music major here, I want to teach piano privately once I graduate. How important is it that I have my performer's ARCT diploma if I'm going to graduate with a Bachelor's of Music degree? I'm debating between specializing in performance or theory. I know I'm not the strongest player around so I might not be accepted into performance. My teacher said even with a performance degree people aren't going to care, because they want someone with an ARCT certificate since it's a "tradition" in Canada.

I would do my ARCT, except it costs a ton (plus all the additional theory exams), on top of what I'm already paying for university, so I want to make sure it'd be worth it. Based on what my teacher says, wouldn't it kinda be pointless to get a BMus if an ARCT would suffice (costwise)? Any advice from teachers?
