Help with fingering - Ave Maria Bach Gounod
on: November 10, 2013, 01:52:34 PM
I got my copy of this piece in https://www.music-scores.com/instrument/composer.php?instrument=Piano&name=Gounod . I'm not sure if this is the original score or not but I'm convinced it is. I was able to sight-read through it the other day but my fingers made some weird skips.

I really like this piece. Maybe someone can help me with fingerings, the kind that will make its playing legato.

Thank you!

Hi maria, i just wondering if my info could benefit you or not. Yup i think the smooth finger movements is require when playing legato. Legato is the opposite of staccato. When playing legato, your fingers should play the notes very smoothly. On sheet music- if it's legato, above the notes there should be a curved line, indicating non-detached notes and legato. I hope you can get some idea about it. Keep on working Good luck

The original Gounod piano arrangement is this one (pdf).

It has some fingering already, which should get you started.
