Metronome app
on: November 11, 2013, 02:51:32 PM
My new teacher is making me focus on rhythm.  (I am a beginner, 44)

She wants me to get a metronome.

I found several metronome apps for iPhone, but I would really like one that I can start and stop with my voice.

Is anyone aware of such an app?

(The 2 apps that I like are Tempo Lite and Metrotimer - but they have no voice command option)

Thanks.

Mac

I would recommend getting an electronic metronome with a dial such as seiko. They are very inexpensive. I have used a free online metronome that was pretty amazing. It was useful for polyrhythms and had much higher BPM capability. I could also adjust the volume of the clicks and change the sound.

I do not know of any voice activated metronomes.

I hope I have been helpful, Joe.

I am an Iphone app user but have not ventured into metronome apps. I think if you are looking at metronome it will be far more helpful for you not to limit it to voice control. Look for a metronome app that will give you something on the first beat of each measure such as an extra little ring or accent or something on the first beat. and you can program 4/4 3/4 5/4 at a minimum. I have never used an app as a metronome but it could be a useful item to have. I firmly believe that metronome practice can help at all levels... not all the time though. at some point the rythm must come from the musician , not the metronome. I find the metronome helps with control more so than rythm
