Philippines typhoon
on: November 12, 2013, 12:15:48 AM
As a gesture of solidarity with our several Filipino friends on the forum I urge members to join me in privately donating something to one of the major relief organisations to help with this terrible event. UNICEF is here:
https://www.unicef.org.nz/philippines?gclid=CIDdxJX43boCFcJgpAodvR0ATA
but there are several others. A lot or a little doesn't matter, it all helps.

Hello Ted,
Thank you for the concern ... I am embarrassed as a Filipino for not having the "courage" to ask for help from PS members. Perhaps being in Manila where we were relatively spared by the typhoon's wrath made the urgency less for us. I am sorry.
My brother and many relatives who live in central Philippines (the Visayas) just went to "hell and back". They were "lucky" that there were no storm surges in their place, but still the only thing left were their families and the clothes they wore. Town upon town were flattened and destroyed; they are practically back to the middle ages. It is so heart-wrenching and no words can aptly describe their indescribable suffering ...... staggering misery.
May I just add a few more sites to what you have posted for those who can help:
1. The Philippine National Red Cross : https://www.redcross.org.ph/donate
2. UNICEF :

3. British Red Cross : https://www.redcross.org.uk/typhoonappeal/
4. (UN) World Food Programme : https://www.wfp.org/donate/typhoon
5. Care : https://www.careinternational.org.uk/philippines-typhoon-emergency-appeal
6. Save the Children :

Good grief, I am so sorry to hear about your relations, emill. My wife's relatives were spared this time, but we know what it must be like, having had her entire family go through the 1990 Dagupan earthquake. This typhoon wasn't an ordinary one, and the regular ones are bad enough. If everyone on the forum gave even $50 - $100 that would go a long way toward providing essentials for some people somewhere.
