Memorizing?

When should I begin memorizing a piece? At the outset? When I can play in completely through?

If you're wondering about when, then the obvious answer is immediately.  The reason is because you don't have the vocabulary to recall, hence the need to memorize it immediately.

You also imply sightreading.  You can't sightread what you don't have the vocabulary for.

Can you define what you mean by "vocabulary"?
