Our teacher gave us a Huge assignment...
on: November 18, 2013, 09:25:21 PM
this might sound a bit ridiculous.
i have been in this piano duet for like 3 months in my music school, and the first piece we played with her were grieg's norwegian dances number 2 and 3. very easy.
and now this:
https://www.ema.edu.ee/tv/index.php?x=/2009/IP_talvekursus_28.01.09&y=/tv/video/2009/IP_talvekursus_28.01.09/02._Tyyyyyyr_-_Sonatiin_16x9.flv
(there is no sheet music for it online, it's a relatively unknown piece.) our teacher mentioned that she thinks we can "pull it off" and a minute ago she mentioned that this piece is only played in conservatories and academies... but we are only 16 years old and still in high school level with the piano.
and we need it ready in three weeks. this piece is about 7 minutes long, with some insanely difficult passages, and full of so many 32nd notes in andante (beginning) and allegro. it's not really repetitive. we have no idea what to do now, so i came here for help. how should i approach this piece? i play the second piano btw, and i have the fastest notes and passages.....

You realize that this piece is for duo and not duet, right?
Anyway, it's certainly not a huge piece, but it might be a bit beyond what you can do in three weeks at your level.
Learn your part well on your own (and have your partner do the same). Get together and read through it together at a slow, 'comfortable' tempo.
You really have to keep your eye on the page in this type of repertoire, and you can't rely on memorization at all.
Three weeks should be enough for this short of a piece, though. My partner and I got Beethoven's 9th Symphony for two pianos together from scratch in less than two months, and it's over an hour in length. This piece is under 7 minutes long!
You can do it!

Sorry, by 'comfortable' tempo, I meant the tempo at which you can both play together, without stopping from beginning to end.
