This is NOT another of THOSE threads!

As some of you are aware, and many may not be, Carl wrote a lot of music besides his pedagogical works (School of, Etudes, studies etc).

For a very long time, this was largely ignored - out of print and unperformed. Indeed, a sizeable portion of it was and remains unpublished.  Horowitz was about the only person who played anything other than the exercise works, and then only one set of Variations.

In the past few years, however, through the work of Anton Kuerti, Isabelle Oehmichen-Berczi, Martin Jones and others (as far as the piano works are concerned) he is undergoing a reappraisal and something of a revival.

IMSLP has greatly extended it's collection of his works, and several publishers (notably Bisel) are releasing new editions.

The thing I want to bring to your attention, particularly, though is that his actual music IS VERY GOOD!  So, go play some! His Sonatas, Nocturnes, Variations and assorted works based on operatic themes are well worth a look.

Examples to whet your appetite:

A worthy thread that I hope generates some interest in Czerny the composer.

Check out the variations on a theme by Haydn. Such immense fun.
