Recommendations for next piece
on: January 10, 2014, 03:59:30 AM
I've been playing since August 2012 after taking a piano class at university. So far I have been able to learn Erik Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1 and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. I'm not sure where to go to at my current skill level in choice of a piece to start learning. I can play an octave comfortably and can cheat using my 1st and 4th finger to reach a 9th. Is Clair de Lune very difficult? I spent 6 months learning Moonlight Sonata. Any direction would be appreciated

You can learn Carl Bach's solfegietto, which is what I learned after moonlight. It's not as hard as it seems, it's very fast and beautiful, and it will definetely give you confidence for playing faster pieces. It's also easier than moonlight and will introduce you to faster stuff.
I can recommend you one I personally love which is also easier than moonlight, chopin prelude 4. Simply beautiful, if it took you 6 month to learn moonlight you might manage this in 25 days or less.
Finally if you're into beethoven go ahead and try fur elise, it's beautiful and simple. And again, if you play moonlight moovement one you'll have no troubles even on the hardest part. The mid section of elise is just a matter of muscle memory and it will give you confidence to choose harder pieces. It gave me
