Brahms: Capriccio Op 76-5 or Capriccio Op 116-1
on: January 20, 2014, 06:09:57 AM
Hello friends.

What do you think of those pieces?
Which one do you think is the hardest?

Thanks a lot!
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

Hello,
So it depends on who you are as a pianist. I would say that most would probably find 116 to be the hardest. For me, its the opposite. The 76 requires a much greatest contrast and pallet of sound. The notes aren't hard but getting some nice legatos and different sounds in the same hand while keeping it all under control at a semi fast tempo is really hard! I am and Octave/Chord connosuier so I have no trouble at all with 116. (I learned the Tchaikovsky Bb concerto cadenza in 10 minutes of practice.) Also, 76 is a little longer. There is more to be found in it interpretively. It is over (in my opinion) a better piece. 116, is a really easy piece as far as understanding the form goes. It can be memorized quickly even with out playing it. I can't think of what else to say. If you have any questions about either one, just let me know. -Aaron :)
