Yamaha that Hugh Laurie plays in "House"?
on: January 27, 2014, 03:07:41 PM
Hey everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone knows which Yamaha GP Hugh Laurie plays in the TV show "House, M.D."? It can be seen in several episodes (in his apartment) and he plays it in at least four, throughout all eight seasons.

Just some curiosity, thanks!

Nathan

According to this article, the piano played in House, M.D. is a Yamaha CFIIIS. More information on the (discontinued) piano is available here.

from my recollection of the t.v. show, having watched nearly every episode, that nine foot yamaha was not the actual instrument used in the doctor's apartment setting. (consider how it would look in a modest sized apartment set). maybe it was used for dubbing the sound track.  he played two smaller grands over the course of the show in his apartment.  the first was a vintage instrument, maybe a Knabe.  then yamaha got into product placement with the show's production and they switched.

Laurie's repertoire on the show was quite varied, with the choice of music playing a part in the narrative.  among the many pieces played were part of a Bach suite and oscar peterson.  his guitar collection however is far more spectacular than the prop pianos on the show, and quite a few made an appearance in the episodes.  he owns classic gibsons and martins and a couple of others.
