Need help for school performance.
on: February 15, 2014, 12:13:50 PM
Okay I'm reaching a dilemma here, what should I play for my school's talent show? I mean I need a piece that everyone likes and it can't be too long.

What grade are you in? Do you play Classical or Pop?

9th great, and I play classical. Quite honestly, last year's talent show was a disaster (EVERYONE was rolling their eyeballs at me).

Not really, I'm not a troller. I really did play goldberg when I was 7.

Well, if you made an audience fall asleep, you probably played quite badly. La campanelka or hr no 2 should do it... Since you played Goldberg at 7, you probably played these at 4.

Lol quite a paradox, seeing as Bach composed the variations for a guy named Goldberg, who required them very long, so he could fall asleep while they were being played

I think you should play something a bit popular that showcases your classical skill set.

I don't think that serious classical repertoire is particularly appropriate for a school talent show.

Maybe you could play the blues or something? Or if you played your own arrangement of a well-known popular song? That would be even better!

Depends on the whole situation, but maybe a ragtime piece?  You don't have to do much with dynamics.  If you perform on a crappy piano, it doesn't matter so much -- It's more  plunking out notes than shaping them so much.  Steady beat for the audience to follow along with.  If you get nervous or something, just play louder.

Entertainer
Maple Leaf Rag

People know those well enough to follow along and be entertained.  Popular for teaching pieces.  Niche in music history.  You'll run across them again sometime most likely.
