change in lessons
on: February 19, 2014, 01:40:39 PM
I take my lessons on a Wednesday evening after work. I have been asked to work in a very busy office on a Wednesday which may mean that I cannot get away at the time to get to the lesson. I have told my manager that I cannot work after 5.30 because I need to allow time to get to my evening class. He said he would let the person know who wants me to work in the office on a Wednesday. I am concerned that the reply will be "well we want you to work on a Wednesday and it is an extremely busy office and sometimes it means you will have to work until 6pm or 7pm (no way of telling in advance). They may see that work comes first over and above an evening class. I am stressed out about it because I LOVE my piano lessons, love my teacher and love the school where I go. The other alternative is to switch my lessons to 1pm on a Saturday afternoon where I know the slot is free, but why should I? I have been having Wednesday lessons for a long time and Saturday is my day off and 1pm eats into my Saturday which means I cannot plan anything much for the day because the lessons eats into the middle of the day. Thankfully this slot has only become free because the person who did have a lesson at 1pm on a Saturday decided to swich to Wednesdays which freed up the Saturday slot.
If work has to come first, then I will have no alternative but to do the Saturday slot, but that means I cannot ever go out for the day which is why I opted for the Wednesday evening slot.
My teacher works at the school part time and she only works on a Wednesday and a Saturday.
Any advice?

Are there any other week nights you can getaway from work early and do a piano lesson ?
After all work pays your bills and your piano lessons I imagine - so you might have to do what your work says?
