Recruiting pf members [Bob asks]
on: November 21, 2004, 04:06:47 AM
I was thinking...   and this doesn't have to take a huge amount of time all at once.

We could just find music schools, find the professor's email, and email them about the pf site -- just one email though.

We could list what music schools have been covered here so they're not hit twice with emails.

What would the email say?  Just that we're trying to get more people to the pf site -- them AND their students.  please tell their students.  Something like that.

Sound good?  Anyone want to help out?  We could make a list of schools and their url's and whoever was emailed.

I need text for the email though.... What to say....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The email:::

Hello,

I am a member of the piano forum website.   I am trying to recruit more pianists and musicians to the site to make it richer and more useful to everyone.

Please check out pianoforum.net.  Please pass this on to your students and colleagues.

Thank you.  You should not be receiving any more email from me about this unless you respond.  I am  making sure a person only gets one email on this.

I am not a moderator of the website.  I am only attempting to attract more minds to the site.

Sincerely,
Bob from pianoforum.net

Where to start?  Googling for schools of music

I don't much about outside the US.  Julliard, Eastman, U of IN, U of North Texas, one in Florida...  We could make a list of states, universities/colleges covered, who was emailed... unless there's a way to mass-email each school....hmmm....

The list of who's been email:::

North Texas School of Music
https://www.music.unt.edu/

dhaerle at music.unt.edu    Dan Haerle, jazz, the man himself
jeschbac at music.unt.edu   Jesse Eschbach
Banowetz at music.unt.edu   Joseph Banowetz
 beckman at music.unt.edu    Brad Beckman
sharlos at music.unt.edu     Steven Harlos
bodnop at music.unt.edu     Berthe Odnoposoff
ppaul at music.unt.edu      Pamela Mia Paul
gromero at music.unt.edu    Gustavo Romero
vviardo at music.unt.edu    Vladimir Viardo
awodnick at music.unt.edu   Adam Wodnicki
fkern at music.unt.edu      Fred Kern

I can setup another email to use.  I can send them.

The letter needs to be fixed up.

It is spamming in a way, but I thinik we can control it so a person would only get one email.  It's not really bad spamming though, not pouring out mass emails.  I don't think it's wrong at all.

Any schools fo music (with urls so I can double check) and pinao profs?  Just list them here and I'll start sending.  I guess.

Ok, got the email setup.

Let's pick.... North Texas.   I'll update everything on that first post.

Ok, those people at North Texas were emailed.  We can just sit back and wait now.  Might be some NT people visiting soon.

I kept the emails to piano and keyboard people only, including harpsichord and jazz.  Not music education.

I wonder, isn't this something you should check out with the piano forum administrator first?

I'm not quite sure.

I consider it more that I am personally asking these people to check out the site, like if you mentioned it to a friend.

I don't think it's going to hurt the pf site at all.  If there's a problem, I'm sure someone will tell me and then I'll stop.

Hmmm..... No sign of North Texans yet.  Maybe we should post a "Who's from North Texas" thread.  Of course it's only been a day.

We could also target college students who give piano recitals.  Find the college, find the school of music, find the recital list, check the college phone book for an email address.  Lot of work, but it might locate a useful member.

(in search of the next Bernhard, if such a thing is possible)

What school should be next?  Does anyone have website?

lol... This is phishing for pf members.

bernhard is a one-off ;)

in fact - if a similar individual came into the fold - there may be a potentially hilarious war of the piano-gods
