Because we rarely get the chance to hear the big top 5s of the great competitions. And as a Belgian knowing the Queen Elisabeth, I know what they have been going through. First rounds, commissioned work solo, Mozart pianoconcerto, final commissioned work solo+orch, solo piece,
pianoconcerto.
I will check out the Leeds, Moscow, Chopin (only Chopin ? - bit boring no ?). And Gilels, Ashkenazy, Queen winners, Uchida, Michelangeli, Lupu, all top 10s of the competition. You can check on the website, and even listen to archives.
Boris Giltburg the latest winner, massive musician, major blackout in the semi-final in Mozart, but overruled by the jury because his recapitulation and end was masterful, in the final, and win.
But NO. We only see practically Langs everywhere, with his name written on everything he comes across. Wangs... Youtube talents.
I do see their qualities to. But in the UK, Lang is a king, my God. Doctor HC. Masterclasses, ...
He won some youth competitions at 15.
They melt down compared to the Giltburgs. He had already a career going, and still competed.
You have to do it. Lang is too busy watching in the hall of the Royal College of Music in stead of listening through a masterclass (I think he should be the one taking the masterclass), let alone
challenge in the Leeds (also honoured there for WHAT ?), or Brussels.
And Wang (Shostakovitch 2nd pianoconcerto too easy, ...)...
I'd rather here more from Bozhanov. Great competitor, did a lot of competitions.
It's become a shitty business with DG in front.
