restoring an old Steinway with Steinway NY factory

Does anyone here have experience restoring their old Steinway with Steinway factory (New York)?  If so, how was it?  Do they sub-contract some works outside?  How much can the owner of the piano get involved in the final prep stage (about touch/tone, etc)?
