I'm looking for something
on: March 26, 2014, 11:05:19 PM
A snake arm with clamps, like alligator clips kind of, on both ends.
So it could hold something and clamp onto a shelf or something.
What is it I'm looking for? I can't find it anywhere.
Kind of like this, but bigger/able to hold more weight.
I guess it is just... snake arm clamp. Hm.

GorillaPod Focus holds 5 kg / 11 lbs. It is a standard 1/4" 20 thread. You can go to the hardware store and pick up a corresponding nut, and attach that nut on whatever you want to hold.
How much weight do you need to put on it?

Not 11 pounds. More like a flashlight (torch for you weird British speaking people).
Not for $100 though...
Something easily movable/setup-able too. Hm.... It seems like it should be a hardware/lumber/construction type of tool accessory.

Haha... I was wondering...
Get two Joby tripods....
Stick them together with this...

Or more seriously... Maybe a big base arm and a smaller upper arm to hold things...

How do you attach your own screw to one of these?
¼"-20 standard tripod mount
Like regular screw to a clamp. That might work.

Are you looking for a gooseneck lamp? They even sell them specifically for music applications. You can get battery powered ones with LED lamps to clamp on music stands.
The GorillaPod is really a camera accessory. People are depending on these things to keep their expensive gear from falling over. The 11 lbs of camera the GorillaPod Focus could hold could potentially be worth $5000 or more. All of a sudden a $100 support ain't that expensive.
Really if all you want is to hold a lamp, the GorillaPod is probably overkill. However, if it is expensive gear that you are trying to support, it may be worth it. I've actually been considering one of the smaller ones to hold a Zoom recorder, they come with built in tripod mounts.
They also make gooseneck microphone mounts if you want to investigate that route. You'll be dealing with the ⅝″ 27 thread. There are also the British threads ¼″ BSW and ⅜″ BSW.

Nope, not a lamp.
Hm. Something more like a mic snake arm, yes. That plus duct tape....

Also try gooseneck tubing, flexible metal tubing, or flexible conduit.

$60?
They made it nice for general searching too... Oi...
I'm thinking I get just get a goose neck and drill holes in two clamps for a lot less than $60.

I found more of those, same thing essentially, but not with that name. They're mic clamps on music sites.
I'm wondering how you attach something to a regular goose neck. It looks like all the goose necks are for mics.
