Where has Clementi been all my life??
on: May 15, 2014, 05:44:41 PM
I have read through Bach's WTC, books I and II, then Haydn's 52 piano Sonatas, then two books of Scarlatti Sonatas (that's all I have), and now I'm on to Clementi Sonatas.  So far I find him actually pretty magical and extremely enjoyable!  I have never truly played Clementi before, and I am actually enjoying him more than Haydn.  I also happen to be experiencing some very enjoyable musical connections this morning in conjunction ... is it just the Euphoria of those fundamental puzzle pieces shifting into place, or is Clementi actually super enjoyable?  Hmmm?  Answer me this question!!  >:( ;D :-*

Clementi is the bomb diggity. You're on to something many of us piano music hipsters have been chattering about for a while. Good to see Muzi get some good press.  Anything other than another Chopin post is always welcome. ;)

Clementi is indeed super enjoyable. He is an instant fix and doesn't take any getting in to. He has suffered in the past from a bit of a bad press, but his detractors are obviously not pianists and are only repeating what the have heard from other non pianists.

Haydn is a bit too stiff for me, whereas Clementi is as invigorating as jumping into a cold lake.

If you like Clementi, you will adore Woelfl. I play him almost every day.

I failed to find that when I went to Westminster Abbey. Perhaps too many beers.

That is true. If I was crawling on the floor, I might have seen it.

I will know for next time.

For 15 years he kept his virginity

Clementi's Op. 25 sonata in f # minor is magical. I've only played a couple of his sonatinas, hopefully one day I'll move in to the big leagues.

Thanks for the clarification about what it reads!  Of course I'd like to visit in person, someday.  I enjoy Clementi so much that I think I will be picking one to work up, as my next Classical selection.
