Sight-reading material
on: May 19, 2014, 05:39:48 PM
Hello.

Does anybody know where I could find a large amount of grade 6 standard piano music, to use to improve my sight-reading?

Thanks.

There's a huge amount on IMSLP, but it's not graded.  You can get a grade syllabus or look up a list somewhere online to see what to get.

Pianostreet also publishes quite a bit of graded music, so a gold membership might be a good investment.

I've been starting at volume 1 of Bartok's Mikrokosmos and then slowly working my way through all of it. My sight reading is weak so I wanted to start basic.

Mikrokosmos is excellent for that.  I would caution, however, that you include a variety of other composers/periods/styles in your reading.  They all have their unique little quirks, and relying on only one, or very few, sources can leave gaps, and some rather big ones at that.

You can search for grade six pieces on www.pianosyllabus.com (there's several hundred gr 6 pieces listed) and follow your nose from there.
