Fingering in a chromatic scale
on: May 20, 2014, 08:34:53 PM
I feel stupid, but I recently realized that I have never practiced chromatic scales with my left hand. I can do it reasonably well with my right hand, up and down. Today I decided to start learning with my left hand as well aaaand ... I could not decide upon the right fingering.

Suggestions, anyone?

Staring on C: 13132 1313132 13132 1313132 13132 and on and on. You  could start on 4 (or with 321 instead of 131 to avoid the first crossing, but the above is a good pattern once your started).

Thanks a million, I will try that! But it seems to be more natural to use 4 as well, as I do that with my right hand. I will experiment a little now. Again, thanks.

With my right hand I make the pattern 231312312341 231312312341 ... starting from C and ascending.

It depends what effect I want. If I want clarity of articulation and rhythm I use 1 and 3 with 2 at the consecutive white notes. If I want pure speed I bring in the outside fingers too.

How curious.

I use middle and thumb but index on F and C, in LH.

RH is exactly the same.

If you want to use the same pattern but in the left hand you start on E and use your right hand fingering to play a descending scale.

The 1313123 thing is standard, but there are some ones you can do to speed things up

Right hand ascending starting on C [2 octave loop],
123412312341231231234123

And it's the same pattern for the rest just slightly modified
