Oboe Family

I know that the Oboe is at the top of the oboe family, and that cor anglias (or English Horn) and Oboe D, Amore are both in this family, but can somone please tell me the entire oboe family and their order from highest pitch to lowest pitch

And It would also be nice if you could tell me the pitch they are in aswell

Oboe in C
Oboe d’amore in A  (a minor third below the oboe)
Cor Anglais in F (a fifth below the oboe)
Bass oboe in C (an octave below the oboe)
Heckelphone in C (an octave below the oboe)

(These are the ones in normal use today – there are other, older instruments – mostly used in early music).

Thanks.  I have just used my friends computer, he has a program which has all these instruments and it said there was a baritone oboe as well.  It could go about 3 semitones higher.  Has anyone heard of this instrument?

Yes.

Oboes both in Db and Eb (this one a minor third above the oboe – and possibly the one you are talking about) have been built by the French for military bands in the 19th century. But as far as I know these never really caught on, and are not in use today.

I am going to start a board on all woodwind instruments and their family.  I have already done flute, go to the topic Alto Flute for that, next is clarinet!

Is there a connection to all of these similarities?  This is just one more bit of evidence that this elusive Bernhard is just a program to answer questions about music.  Could it be that Bernhard is another computer program like Eliza?

exactly, go to the bassoon family post and you will see i have been asking i bit about the family.  I believe that there is 2 insturments out there called the Quint Bassoon and the Quart basson.  i have heard that they can play plenty above the C above middle C, i still need to do more research

Ya, I play the oboe. It's a gorgous instrument, produces such a lovely sound. The more traditional types are the best though. I don't like these new modern kinds which are slightly wider....they sound too much like clarinets. Needless to say, wood is always better than plastic. Mine is made from African Blackwood. It's a gorgeous oboe, better than anyone else's I know.
