Dover Publications books for piano
on: May 27, 2014, 07:57:37 PM
I'm considering buying the complete Liszt Hungarian Rhapsodies published by Dover Publications.
Are these worth it? It's the only place I can find a book with No.14 in it. I've tried Edition Musica Budapest but the books are currently not in stock.

Is there anyone that has used these books, in particular the HR's? It says that it is reproduced directly from an "authoritive Russian edition", anyone know which one?

Also, will they last long? I'm planning for my books to last a lifetime, which is a long time for me.

Thanks

I have this Edition somewhere albeit I have not used it for ages and it must be 15 years old.

The paper is pretty crap, but the binding is good and should last. The EMB Editions are probably 3 times more expensive.

I like Dover books for the most part. Lemme go grab my HR book.

OK, it's a reprint of a 1975 edition from Izdatel'stvo "Muzyka" from Moscow.

I really like the typesetting. Go for it!

Also it's signed by Stephen Hough!

I don't know if the binding is the same but my edition has a durable binding, unlike the Transcriptions of French and Italian Operas, which started falling apart immediately.

My experience with Dover is pretty good although the back of my Schubert sonatas is damaged, but I have 2 other versions. I also see you are doing the Ballade nr 1 by Chopin. Me too. If you have any advise, please do.
The scherzo nr 1 at full speed is difficult, with large hand spans.
But already the first part up to the climax, is my god superfast at 120 per 3/4.
