I think that's brave. I like bravery.
Not a clue about how this would go in a competition tho.

It's unlikely to be permissible in competition. For casual recitals, no problem.
Arranging stuff is fun because you can fit it to your own technique.

The minnesota e-competition has had entrants play their own stuff before. In the youth competition from last year, the competitor who got third place I believe played one of his works in each round. He was freaking good though... the 'standard' rep he played was among the 'brutal' pieces like Prokofiev 6th Sonata haha.
Check this competition out, they have archived videos for all the old competitions - this is actually where I first discovered Jan Lisiecki (he got third place, and again the talent was absurd in this one).
But anyways, it seemed perfectly viable for this competition (and this isn't really just any competition...)

Unless you have made one hell of an impressive arrangement or transcription, I don't think it would be proper for the sake of competition. Even less appropriate would be one's own composition.

If I recall correctly, Fazıl Say had played his Op. 1 in a competition many years ago, and he got the first prize. But I think this this is mainly due to the Stravinsky/Bartok influence on the piece and the fact that Fazıl Say was already recognized as a universal talent. I doubt something Chopinesque will work as good.

I've heard of it when it's a student composer event/session. Not so much when it's a contest part.... Actually there's some rule I remember that it has to be *published* music... For stuff I've been involved with.
