So, at my performing arts school, we have senior capstones, a project than involves at least a 10 (preferably 15) minute art component, along with a 35 minute monologue. (35 minute monologue, sheesh. Anyways)
I was thinking of doing one large scale work, and then doing Chopin's Op 10/1 etude as the opening, just to get everyone's attention. Then, Chopin op 10/4 later in the show.
But, for my large scale work, should I do the first movement of the Rach 2, or the first Chopin Scherzo? These are just thoughts looking ahead, I may well change my mind. But, as I practice 3 hours a day and learn new pieces and technical concepts very quickly, both my teacher (a graduate of an english conservatory of music) and I feel I will be ready if I start whichever piece I choose and work on it throughout the year.
The only problem with the Rach is I would need to get an orchestra together, though that's manageable.
To put it in a relative perspective, I am 13 (7th grade) and am doing the Rach op 3/2 prelude in c# minor and beethoven moonlight sonata 3rd movement, Debussy's 1st Arabesque, Bach's prelude and fugue in c minor WTC 1, as well as Chopin's concerto in f minor.
So, all in all, which do you guys think would be better for a large crowd? I've heard them both live and can't decide. Also, do you all think I will be ready for rach 2 at that point if I choose to do so? I think so, but just curious to get different opinions. I'm more than happy to majorly up practice time.
