Chopin op.10, no.3 Étude in E major
on: June 09, 2014, 11:59:03 PM
I'm determined to learn this piece on my own. I've gotten to measure 32. Are measures 32-54 as difficult as they look? Maybe I'm biting off more than I can chew. I am no longer taking lessons and ended them after about 6 years when I got to this piece. Decided I was at a brick wall. By the way, I am 75 years old. Do you think that has anything to do with it?

Hi,
Just returned to piano myself after a break - got to a later intermediate level, and I'm 57 years of age.

(Warning - this paragraph might contains spoilers if you want to learn the piece on your won ). One video I found recently on Youtube (
) by Paul Barton is brilliant. He goes into some history on the piece, and how to approach the piece and in particular deals with the sections you are having problems with. He provides a further link to dealing with middle section, in more detail (
).

Of interest he even says some people just play the opening section by itself as it's fantastic.

Thanks for the second link. Have watched the first one. Interesting history of the piece. I will check out further his tutorial on the middle part. It looks daunting.
