Scholarships for piano and/or composition
on: June 17, 2014, 07:54:02 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm a junior piano performance major at the University of Northwestern - St. Paul, and I'm on a mission this summer to hunt down scholarships as an alternative to a summer job. So I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge of scholarship opportunities that are kind of off of the beaten path, things that might not be your typical "prepare an audition" or "write an essay about how important music is to you." Fastweb, Scholarships.com, and Google can only get you so far, and I'd love to find some scholarships that might not be on the web and are less well known.

A little about me: I've been playing piano since I was 6. I love my study of classical music at college, but in the past I've pursued piano music in lots of other ways. I do a lot of playing by ear, I enjoy composing, and I really love arranging pop music/video game music/orchestral music for the piano. One of my biggest, most enjoyable projects was notating the orchestral score to an orchestral video game theme and then arranging that score into a piano/organ duet. I also play guitar, a little violin, and some harmonica.

Thanks for any and all advice!

So rather than doing some work, you want a scholarship. One that doesn't require any work to get. And you want us to do the work to find it for you?  ::)

A lot of things will come to you if you don't go look for them. I believe if you work hard and keep doing what you are doing now and excel at it then One day scholarships will come after you
