tasi has beautiful scenery i loved it. but as a place to live it'd be a whole. the 'city' part of hobart is like a street! nah tasi's ok i liked the airwalk thingy and some other really nice places

I never said tassie was a huge metropolis! All its cities are holes.  But you're right Tash, it has beautiful scenery.  The Tahone (?) airwalk is very nice, and sights like Port Arthur penal colony and Cradle Mountain are also good.

My geography teacher always reminded us that all of Sydney is a hole.  It's in a basin or something like that (I never turned up to geography class, I hated it, but he was my roll-call teacher as well, so I'd pick up these bits and pieces occasionally).

The Port Arthur ghost tour was great, but I thought it wasn't as scary as it could have been.  Cradle Mountain is amazing, takes your breath away.    Maybe you could write a peice of music inspired by the landscape Tash, that would be just as good as a painting, if not better? Heard of a Tasmanian who did a song about Kakadu national park,Peter Sculthorpe i think.

Sculthorpe also wrote "Mountains" which was inspired by Cradle Mountain I think (is that the dark stormy one? - like I said, I don't know any geography, so no idea which mountain is which).  "Mountains" is a piano solo work, "Kakadu" is for orchestra.

Mountains is great! I've played it before (still play it..!!) its actually kind of creepy and scary at the beginning.  Any of you guys played this one???

Tassie is beautiful, the Gordon River is fantastic and Hobart is a georgeous city but I could not live there.

Whats wrong with Tasmania? It is ok. Barely. Not much here, granted, but UTAS is apparantly really good, people are OK.

The tassie people are good and some of my best friends went to UTas (It is a really good uni....!!)  Bagging tassies is just a mainland hobby, really we are just jealous that your environment is a lot cleaner and nicer than ours, but I'm a Sydney girl at heart!

oh i did call canberra a hole didn't i hehe. i'm going down there sometime soon to visit relatives or something how very exciting

The know the way to the airport, and if they don't I'll show them

It seems that most people don't really celebrate Australia Day, my family used to go watch the firework (crappy canberra fireworks that is) when i was a kid but haven't for a while

Who is Sam K?

My friends and I used to go out to the city and see the fireworks.  But we stopped doing that years ago.  Then my godparents always invited me to go with them to Parramatta park for those fireworks.  But they're overseas on holidays this week, so it means I won't be doing anything for Australia Day.

Sorry, I couldn't remember his full name, its Sam Kekovich.  Former AFL player I think, used to be on the Fat on ABC.  Now he's doing Lamb adds.  Take a look at one of the news reports of it:

I saw an article ages ago about how the add with all the butchers dancing about was banned in New Zealand, because it offend some group.  Can't fathom why though?

By the way, did you all eat lamb on Australia day?  ;)

Hey, Sydney-siders - last night's storm was really cool, especially since I was listening to the last movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony at the time, so it was all very dramatic.

But this afternoon was a bit much!  I was on the bus at the time, and watching trees fall onto the motorway and block the road was quite scary.  Then arriving into my area and having half the roads blocked by trees was a real pain!

This is what you get for living in the leafy suburbs, I suppose.   :(

yeah crazy storm, talk about the incredibly bizarre weather we've been getting this summer, after a practically rainless winter. i don't think it was too bad up here though, we didn't get any blackouts or anything, and if there are trees on the ground i haven't seen them.

did you hear about the Queenwood girl who got crushed out camping by the tree falling on her tent? how awful was that, a friend of mine knew her really well

OK lenny, I've listened to it, and yes, the storm mvt is very evocative, but it is far too short to describe the storm we had that week.

omg, tash, I've seen them now!!!  I starting catching the train a couple of weeks ago, because my bus service became really bad, and I have seen these billboards with POW on it.

And the weird thing is, I'm up in Brisbane typing this, and on my way up, on the highway between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, I saw one, too!

I think they're ads for the billboards - telling businesses that they should advertise using billboards.  Bizarre!!!
