Tendonitis in hands
on: July 16, 2014, 05:32:57 PM
I've sustained tendonitis in my hands - likely from piano playing, compounded by the excessive amounts of writing I had to do for exams. I'm just wondering if anyone who's been afflicted with in before could tell me what helped them and how long it took to heal.

Thanks

Back of hands, front of fingers, wrists
probably started about just over a month ago now
Piano, typing, writing, not resting it
If you're referring to pain, moderate pain
Burns when I'm doing nothing and more so when I'm doing something
mild to moderate intensity
acute
started because of playing, is compounded by other activities
been playing for about 10 months, though I haven't played in the last month
no teacher

hi
The origin of pain in those regions is probably due to tendons and their sheets.
The best treatment is rest .Although anagesics can help. But if your pain is with some hand positions and otherwise ok avoid those special position .You still can practice piano with nonpainful posistions.

Thanks drazh. I've stopped playing piano now for a while. But its flared up from a visit to the gym the other day, and before that a swimming session (I have no idea why swimming kicked it off because its supposed to help heal injuries...). Typing also compounds the injury, so I do as little as possible. But resting your hands is very difficult when their is so much you do with them :D.

It is difficult yes.but that particular tendon should rest to heal.no other choice.
if you can not avoid  movement use a han splint to force yourself to rest.
